As the hot summer continues, one of the favorite Rocky Mount Family Events of the season, “Summer Night Lights,”  will host four more of its fun filled Friday night events at a variety of locations between July 20 and August 10.

Created five years ago in an attempt to offer more Rocky Mount Family Events that teenagers and their parents could both attend and enjoy, “Summer Night Lights” has done just that, giving kids an alternative to taking the chance of winding up in less than satisfactory situations while still being able to interact socially with their peers.

Since the initial launch of these Rocky Mount Family Events, “Summer Night Lights” has grown in popularity, giving teens and adults an outlet for fun like no other throughout the summer months. A free, block party style program that takes place most weekends throughout the summer, “Summer Night Lights” was described by Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation Program Supervisor, Heather White, who said, “While the program is designed to attract area teens, over the past few years, it has grown into an outreach for families as well.”

Rocky Mount Family Events

In addition to the fantastic on-site amenities at the Belmont Lake Preserve NC golf community, there are also many fantastic events and activities for both children and adults alike in Rocky Mount. Whether they are outdoor events in the Summer time or one of the many Rocky Mount Family Events like their upcoming annual Spring themed activities, including the Sunset Easter Eggstravaganza to be held on Sunday, March 20 at Sunset Park.

Holiday themed Rocky Mount Family Events are always some of the most anticipated, with something for all ages to enjoy. With traditional Easter activities for the children starting at 2 p.m. and running until 5 p.m., along with games, rides, prizes and refreshments, the Easter Eggstravaganza will for sure be one to put a smile on the faces of the little ones. There will be three separate age groups, with different “hunting” areas for each to allow all the children to enjoy the annual Easter egg hunt held at the event.

The celebration of the Easter holiday and fun filled kid activities are not the only reasons making this one of the most highly anticipated Rocky Mount Family Events on the calendar, as it also signifies the start of spring for many with the official opening of Sunset Park for the season.

The city’s main park, Sunset Park is a favorite for Rocky Mount Family Events throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. Featuring a 36 passanger train ride, a “county fair” style carousel, a disc golf course, and a spray park to keep cool in the summer, the options at Sunset Park are endless for your Rocky Mount Family Events.

In addition, Sunset Park also features concession stands, lighted basketball and tennis courts, four picnic shelters in addition to many other picnic sites, and a little league baseball field. The park is open for children’s parties as well, and can be reserved in two hour blocks for up to 40 children at a time.

Sunset Park is located off Sunset Avenue on Taylor Street and River Drive beside the famous Tar River. For more information on the park and all upcoming Rocky Mount Family Events, visit rockymountnc.gov.
