The name on the location of the 9thAnnual Rocky Mount Paws in the Park event says it all, as ‘Best Friend’s Dog Park’ at 400 East Duke Circle (just minutes from Belmont Lake Preserve) will host a day full of activities focused on you and your furry friends.

This years’ Rocky mount paws in the Park event is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 and will start at 11:00 am and run for three fun-filled hours until 2:00 pm. As it has in its previous 8 years of existence, Rocky Mount Paws in the Park promotes responsibility in pet ownership and the humane treatments of dogs, with a full day of contests and special events.

Once again, returning to the Rocky Mount Paws in the Park event will be a crowd favorite from previous years, the “Dare Devil Dogs.” This is a high energy, exciting stunt show where dogs will perform, catching frisbees and flying discs in acrobatic fashion in an awesome display that all are sure to enjoy. The “Dare Devil Dogs” will perform two entire shows throughout the day’s events.

As has become expected at Rocky Mount Paws in the Park, this year will see many unique events throughout the day. According to the official Facebook event page, each of the  following will also take place on April 14 at Best Friend’s Dog Park:

On Saturday, March 2, just a few minutes up the road from your new home at the Belmont Lake Preserve NC golf community on the campus of Nash Community College, there will be a celebration of diversity with in the local community as a part of the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures.

Starting at 12:00 pm and running until 4:00 pm at the on campus, Brown Auditorium, the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures has become an annual favorite among local events. “This festival brings our community together and shows us how our diversity empowers us,” said city of Rocky Mount Director of Human Relations, Archie Jones.

There will be many tastes, sounds, and sights on hand at the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures for all to enjoy on March 2. These will include an array of exotic foods for sampling from across the globe, and vendors, who likewise will be selling and showcasing items representing a variety of ethnicities and cultures. In addition, there will be a fashion show and also multi-cultural live music and entertainment to enjoy at the Rocky mount International Festival of Cultures.

Slated to be represented and on display at the Rocky Mount International Festival of Cultures are communities and traditions to include Central American, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, African American, and the Hawaii-Saponi Indian Tribe.

Summing up the great community feel of this celebration of diversity, Jones concluded his statement on the official city website saying, “From the food to the fashion and the friendly atmosphere, this event showcases some of the best of our city-the many cultures that call Rocky Mount home.”

By now, most residents are aware of the recent opening of the spectacular Rocky Mount Event Center, just minutes away from your new home at Belmont Lake Preserve new home community. However, in addition to hosting national recording artists, the best in entertainment, and local and professional sporting events, open year-round with in the facility is Game Day Adventure and Arcade, giving you and the kids a fun way to beat the boredom that sometimes goes along with winter and enjoy a fun filled day for all ages in the process.

According to the Rocky Mount Event Center website, “Game Day has something for everyone and all ages, featuring state-of-the-art video arcade as well as Ballocity soft play arena for the little ones.” The site goes on to describe the Game Day facility, located inside the Rocky Mount Event Center, saying, “There will also be a Sky Trail Aerial Ropes Course and several unique fun wall-climbing elements that offer both adventure and challenge for everyone ages 4 and up.”

The arcade area is open Wednesday through Sunday of each week. (It is closed on both Mondays and Tuesdays unless in case of special events) “Game day” opens its doors at 11:00 am on both Wednesday and Thursday and stays open until 9:00 pm. On Fridays, they still close at 9:00, however they open an hour earlier at 10:00 am. Weekend hours are also slightly different, with a 10:00 am opening time on both Saturday and Sunday, but closing times differing. (10:00 pm on Saturday and 6:00 pm on Sunday)

Outside of your classic arcade game fun, the Rocky Mount Event Center Game Day Arcade offers “an indoor aerial adventure,” with its indoor rope challenge. A test of strength, stamina, balance, and most importantly, fun, the qualified staff on hand will brief you and other visitors before you attempt to tackle the course and the courses begin every hour on the hour.

Likewise, the themed climbing area features obstacles of all shapes, sizes, and heights, allowing you and the youngsters to be as daring as you’d like in this area. Utilizing the special TRUEBLUE devices to clip all climbers in and assure their 100 percent safety, this is one part of the arcade you will not want to miss. For the smaller children, the Ballocity area “is a great option for kids and families to have fun in  a safe environment. “ The Rocky Mount Event Center website goes on to say that  in this area, “All of the equipment is designed for safety, made with high-quality material that can withstand rigorous use, and with bright colors to engage small children.”

Always a great spot, that’s only a short drive from your home at Belmont Lake Preserve, to find countless educational and enjoyable activities alike for members of the whole family, the ongoing schedule and upcoming Spring 2019 slate of Rocky Mount Family Programs at the downtown Imperial Centre is sure to offer up a way for you and your kids alike to expand your horizons and add some culture to your life as you can learn and experiment with many different mediums depending on your course of choice.

There is registration needed for some of the courses, classes, and workshops offered as part of the Imperial Centre’s Rocky Mount Family Programs,  and this can be done online at imperialcentre.org. The upcoming Spring 2019 schedule for Rocky Mount Family Programs will be released very soon, and current offerings for the entire family posted at the Imperial Centre website are as follows:

-Make Art Saturdays (Every Other Saturday 11 am-1 pm)

(Registration is not required) Experiment with different types of art as part of this program. Travel around the Imperial Centre, observe sculpture, paintings, drawings, photographs, architecture, and many more artist-made objects, and then make your own.

On their official website, the City of Rocky Mount explains in a recent posting that the municipality has long been linked to the inspirational and world- changing words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as one of his speeches immediately prior to the famous “I have a dream” address he gave was right in the city. The pride in the Doctor’s strong words is still as evident as ever locally and can be experienced just minutes from your new home at Belmont Lake Preserve at any of the recently announced Martin Luther King Day Events in Rocky Mount celebrating his legacy.

Continuing to speak of each of these Martin Luther King Day Events in Rocky Mount, the city website went on to tell that,”The theater at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences will be the location for the MLK Oratorical Competition on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 beginning at 9 am. Students in grades sixth through eighth will speak to the theme “Building Bridges,” while speeches for contestants in grades ninth through 12th will speak around the “Unfinished Work of a Dreamer” theme.”

The main event will as always be the annual Unity Breakfast, to take place this year on Monday, January 15 at 7:00 am, and will take place just a few steps away from your new home at the Belmont Lake Preserve NC golf community at the Dunn Center on the campus of NC Wesleyan College.

Detailing the annual breakfast, the site said, “Keynote speaker, Rick Glazier, executive director of the N.C. Justice Center, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 31st annual Unity Breakfast that will be held beginning at 7 a.m. on Jan. 21 at the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan College.”

Going on to explain why Mr. Glazier was the selection for keynote speaker, the posting said, “Glazier’s resume is extensive. He previously represented Cumberland County for seven terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives. He also served as a visiting professor in Criminal Justice at Fayetteville State University for eight years and has taught pre-trial civil law at Campbell University’s School of Law for the past 24 years.”

Following the  Annual Unity Breakfast, volunteers will team together for the annual Day of Service projects. All events are free and open to the public. City of Rocky Mount Human Relations Director addressed the annual “Day of Service” and what it means to him and the community as a whole, stating, ““We are always excited about the start of a new year, providing everyone an opportunity to look beyond our differences and focus on the things that unite us as we strive for an inclusive community,” Human Relations Director Archie Jones said.

Normally held on the first Friday evening of each month, the December 6 installment of First Friday at the Imperial Centre will carry a Christmas theme, featuring activities for the whole family in all sections of the downtown Rocky Mount arts center only a few minutes from your family’s new home at Belmont Lake Preserve new home golf community.

The Imperial Centre website listed the following special activities that will be taking place on the December 6 First Friday at the Imperial Centre in addition to the lighting of the Imperial Centre Christmas tree, a visit from Santa Claus for the kids, and carriage rides and bounce houses in the courtyard where there has been a forecast for “snow,” to get all in the mood of the season.

Following in the classic holiday tradition that is trimming the tree, hanging the stockings, and awaiting Santa to descend down the chimney, the 63rd annual Rocky Mount Christmas Parade returns on Sunday, December 2, just down the street from your new home at Belmont Lake Preserve, bringing holiday joy and the yuletide spirit once again to downtown Rocky Mount. 

This years’ Christmas Parade in Rocky Mount has a very special theme, as the city officials and members of the community will band together with the United States Marine Corps Reserve, who will be on hand to collect donated toys for less fortunate youngsters in the area to help ensure a special Christmas morning for the little ones who may not normally receive such gifts. The representatives from the Marine Corps will be located near City Hall, on the corner of Church and Nash Street before, during, and after the Christmas Parade in Rocky Mount to collect the “Toys for Tots.”

The 63rd annual Christmas Parade in Rocky Mount will commence at 3:00 p.m., ringing in the holiday season as the community and all its residents “get in the spirit of the season” as they march through downtown in grand fashion. In addition to the area schools, bands, dance groups, and other groups that are sure to impress with there individual floats that are encouraged to be decorated in accordance with this years’ worthy them of “Toys for Tots,” the little ones will also be thrilled to know that once again, Santa Claus himself, along with Ms. Claus will also be on hand as a part of the 2018 Christmas Parade in Rocky Mount.
